Find Your Plug: E‑Bike Connector Guide
A part only fits if its plug matches the plug on your bike. Many e-bike plugs look alike but differ in pin count, shell shape or wiring, so name your plug first, then shop.
Three quick checks
-
Round or small and rectangular? Round, rubber-sealed plugs are waterproof plugs. Small rectangular plastic plugs with a latch are SM-style. Large plugs on the battery are power plugs.
-
How many pins? Count the pins (male plug) or holes (female plug) on the face of the plug, not the wires behind it.
-
Any ring, arrow or latch? A screw ring, an alignment arrow or a latch narrows it down fast. Wire colours differ between suppliers, so never match on colour alone.
Julet / Higo: round waterproof plugs
Small round, rubber-sealed plugs on throttles, brake sensors, pedal-assist sensors, lights and displays, plus the larger 9-pin plug on many hub motors. Julet and Higo are the makers’ names; look-alikes are often sold as “Julet-style”.
2-pin: male (left) and female (right)
3-pin: male (left) and female (right)
5-pin: male (left) and female (right)
9-pin motor plug: male pins (left), female sockets (right)
| Plug | Typical location | Pins | How to recognize | Common mix-ups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small signal plugs | Throttle, brake-lever cut-off, pedal-assist sensor, lights, display lead | 2 to 6 | Small round shell with a rubber seal. Count the pins on the face of a male plug or the holes on a female plug. | The same pin count does not mean the same pin order, and wire colours vary. A male plug only mates with a female plug. Compare with the product photos before you order. |
| 9-pin motor plug | Hub motor lead, between motor and controller | 9: 3 thick phase pins plus thin signal pins | Larger round shell, with arrow marks on the shell to line up the two halves. Z910 and Z916 are two 9-pin types with different shell sizes and keys. | “9-pin” alone is not enough: Z910 and Z916 differ, and some Bafang hub motors use 10 or 11 pins. An extension cable only extends a plug that already mates; it does not adapt one type to another. |
Bafang: system plugs
Bafang mid-drive kits (BBS01B, BBS02B, BBSHD) and Bafang hub motors use their own plugs. The display link on the mid-drives is called EB-BUS.
5-pin display plugs
3-pin speed sensor plug with threaded ring
10-pin hub motor plug with metal screw ring
Red 11-pin screw-lock hub motor plug
| Plug | Typical location | Pins | How to recognize | Common mix-ups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Display plug (EB-BUS) | Display lead on BBS01B, BBS02B and BBSHD mid-drives | 5 | Slim round waterproof plug. Count five pins on the face of the plug. | Not the same as the 5-pin SM plug on KT displays. Wire colours can vary by production year and market, so check the wiring diagram for your bike before splicing. |
| Speed sensor plug | Speed sensor on BBS01B, BBS02B and BBSHD | 3 | Round three-prong plug with a threaded ring. | Bafang M-series mid-drives use a 4-pin speed sensor plug instead. |
| Throttle and brake plugs | Throttle and brake levers, on the standard 1T4 harness | 3 | Small round yellow plugs on the standard harness. | They look like Julet / Higo signal plugs, and a plug that looks the same can have a different pin order. 2-, 5- and 6-pin plugs are different parts. |
| Hub motor plugs | Bafang hub motors, between motor and controller | 9, 10 or 11 | Count the pins. The 10-pin plug has a metal screw ring; the G063 1000 W motor uses a red 11-pin screw-lock plug. The G020 uses a 9-pin plug that pushes together. | The same motor model can ship with different plugs: some G060 and G062 versions use 10 pins, others 9 or 11. Plugs with different pin counts do not mate. |
SM / JST: small latched plugs
Small plastic plugs with a latch, common on KT-style displays, thumb throttles, pedal-assist sensors and brake cut-off sensors. They are not waterproof.
5-pin SM plug (left) and 5-pin round waterproof plug (right) on one display cable
6-pin SM plug on a thumb throttle (left), 2-pin on a brake cut-off sensor (right)
| Plug | Typical location | Pins | How to recognize | Common mix-ups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sensor and throttle plugs | Brake cut-off sensor, pedal-assist sensor, thumb throttle | 2 to 6 | Small rectangular plastic housing with a latch, wires entering from the back. | The same pin count does not make two SM plugs interchangeable: pin order varies by supplier. Keep them dry, because water can corrode the pins. |
| KT display plug | Display lead of KT-style displays (SM version) | 5 | Latched rectangular plug, wider than the round waterproof plug on the same display lead (1.4 cm against 0.9 cm on the KT display cable we list). | Some KT displays come in a waterproof round version and an SM version, so check which one you have. Wire order differs between systems: the KT cable we list is wired red (+), blue (lock), black (−), green (data receive), yellow (data transmit), as stated by its manufacturer. |
XT / Anderson & power plugs
Large plugs that carry battery current, plus the barrel plug used for charging. Cheap look-alikes can overheat under load.
DC 5.5 x 2.1 mm barrel plug (left) and socket (right)
| Plug | Typical location | Pins | How to recognize | Common mix-ups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XT60 / XT90 | Battery discharge and charge leads | 2 (positive and negative) | Yellow plastic body with gold bullet pins. XT60 has 3.5 mm pins; XT90 is the larger plug with 4.5 mm pins. | The two sizes do not plug into each other. Read the plus and minus marks moulded on the shell rather than trusting wire colour. Genuine Amass parts only; clones can melt. |
| Anderson Powerpole | Battery and motor leads at high current | Modular, no fixed count | Coloured blocks that slide and lock together, so a pair can be stacked into larger connectors. Genuine housings carry a capital A on the end. | Copies are common and can melt at lower current than the real thing. The metal contacts can push back if they are not clicked in fully. |
| DC barrel (charging) | Charger lead and the charging port on the battery or frame | 2 (centre pin and outer sleeve) | Round metal tube with a small pin in the centre. Measure it: 5.5 x 2.1 mm is common on e-bike chargers. | 5.5 x 2.1 mm and 5.5 x 2.5 mm look almost the same, and some chargers use XLR or 3-pin plugs instead. Polarity matters: positive to positive. |
We do not currently list XT or Anderson battery plugs. This section is here so you can name the plug on your battery before you order a charger lead or adapter.

Round or square is not enough to name a plug. Send a face-on photo of each half of the plug, plus the label on the part it connects to, and we will check the match before you order.
