If a Lectric XP4 shows E008, the XP4 manual (V1.3, 2025) lists it as a "Throttle Fault" and gives one common solution: check the throttle quick plug. That is a connector check, not a part replacement. This guide covers that check, then the settings that can make a throttle seem dead when no code appears at all.
Everything below comes from that manual. Other Lectric models can differ, so check the manual for your own bike. For the other codes in the same table, see our Lectric error code guide.
What E008 tells you, and what it does not
Lectric says the bike monitors its components automatically and shows the matching code when it detects a fault. So E008 means the bike detected a throttle problem. The manual does not say whether the cause is the plug, the throttle or the wiring. A throttle that does nothing without any code is a different situation, covered in step 3.
Before you touch anything
- Take the battery off. Lectric says to remove it before any inspection, maintenance or repair.
- Do not open any component. The manual says never to open the battery, display, motor or PAS sensor; service belongs to a bicycle repair shop.
- Respect the thumb throttle. It is a lever below the left handlebar, and Lectric warns that touching it with the bike on and stopped can make the bike accelerate.
Step 1: Check the throttle quick plug
This is the only fix Lectric lists for E008. The manual does not say where the throttle plug is or what color it is, so we will not guess. It does show that the handlebar wiring harness holds quick plugs, green for the display and black for the button pad.
For those plugs, Lectric's "bicycle will not turn on" steps say to pull each one apart with a quick pull and no twisting, look at both sides, then reconnect by lining up the arrows. Using the same care on the throttle plug is our suggestion, not a Lectric instruction. Worth looking for: bent or pushed-back pins, dirt or moisture, and a plug that sat loose. If you cannot find it, ask a shop rather than cutting or opening anything.
Step 2: If no code shows, test the throttle on its own
Lectric's table for "Pedal Assist or Throttle do not work" has four steps: set the assist level between ECO and TURBO, test pedal assist without touching the throttle, test the throttle without pedaling, and check all the quick plugs. The throttle only works when the assist level is not OFF, and the display shuts itself down after 10 minutes of no use, which switches off both pedal assist and the throttle.
Step 3: Rule out settings that mimic a dead throttle
Per the manual, hold the plus and minus buttons together to open the settings menu; it cannot be opened while the bike is moving. These entries change how the throttle behaves:
- Bike Classification. Class 1 and California Mode have no throttle. Class 2 and Class 3 have a throttle limited to 20 mph. The default is Class 2.
- Throttle / PAS Toggle. Setting 1 leaves pedal assist active and the throttle inactive. The default, 3, has both active.
- Throttle Zero Start. Setting 2 makes the throttle work only when the bike is already moving. The default, 1, works from a standstill.
- Throttle Output. Setting 1 limits throttle output by assist level. Setting 2 gives full throttle output in every level.
None of these is a fault, and none should produce E008. Lectric warns against changing any setting that is not in its table, because that may stop the bike working properly, and says not to ride until the default values are restored.
If E008 stays after the plug check
The manual gives no throttle replacement procedure or part number, and does not explain how to tell a failed throttle from a damaged cable. It also defines tampering as removing or replacing original equipment and says tampering can void the warranty. The sensible next step is Lectric's support or a bicycle repair shop that can test the throttle and harness.
If you do shop for a part, confirm the exact connector and throttle type first. We have not confirmed that any part in our catalog fits Lectric's throttle, so treat the parts collection as a reference for general e-bike parts, not as a match.
